We are engaged in the Newcastle Mater Hospital Redevelopment, NSW’s first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the healthcare sector. This extensive redevelopment, delivered in collaboration with the Novacare Consortium, enhances critical health services and infrastructure.

The first stage introduced three 30-bed wards for surgical, medical, and oncology patients, alongside a state-of-the-art interventional suite housing operating theatres and day procedure units. It also included essential back-of-house services such as catering, linen, engineering, supply, and waste management. Radiotherapy services were significantly upgraded, featuring three additional radiotherapy bunkers, linear accelerators, and new brachytherapy facilities.

The second stage focused on expanding emergency and ICU departments, medical imaging, nuclear medicine, and office accommodation for hospital administration and allied health services. A major design enhancement included a central atrium spine, creating an efficient public interface and a vibrant hospital environment.

Additionally, the project incorporated a 96-bed Mental Health facility, comprising a Psychiatric Emergency Care Unit, Psychiatric Intensive Care, and multiple inpatient units, supporting a comprehensive mental health care approach. Throughout construction, hospital operations remained fully functional, ensuring uninterrupted patient care.

This redevelopment strengthens Newcastle Mater Hospital’s role as a leading healthcare provider, delivering enhanced medical services to the region.
