LUNCH & LEARN with BOSS Fire | Passive Fire Systems, Simplified and Certified

Last week, our engineering team took part in a highly technical Lunch & Learn with BOSS Fire, unpacking the essentials of passive fire protection and how certified systems are evolving to meet today’s building standards.

Hosted by Jamie Elbazi the session covered critical topics including compartmentalisation, fire resistance levels (FRLs), and the difference between tested and assessed systems under AS1530.4 and AS4072.1. For our fire and hydraulic engineers, it was a valuable opportunity to sharpen understanding of how penetrations and passive solutions influence compliance, sequencing, and construction risk.

The presentation walked us through BOSS’s certified product range, including the FyreBox system—a multi-service transit box that allows bundled pipes and cables through a single compliant opening—alongside sealants such as FireMastic-HPE™ and FireMastic-300™, which offer high fire resistance across a variety of substrates and services. The team also explored MaxiCollars™, UniWrap®, PenoPatch™, batt systems, facade cavity barriers like FacadeGard™, and thermal wraps designed to protect lagged HVAC bundles and metallic services.

We finished with a look at what’s next for the industry: updated FyreBox configurations, no-minimum fill ratio approvals, and retrofit solutions for underfloor systems currently in testing.

Sessions like this help ensure our engineers are not just working to code, but designing solutions that are practical, buildable, and fully aligned with product limitations, certifications, and coordination requirements.
