This month, Goldfish & Bay welcomed Elie, Rosalie T., and Sienna from Trinity Catholic College Auburn, Catherine McAuley Westmead, and Kincoppal-Rose Bay School into the office as part of their school work experience placement.

Although each student arrived with different interests, personalities, and expectations of professional life, what became clear throughout the week was how differently people can experience the exact same environment. The same office, conversations, and tasks often revealed completely different ways of thinking, communicating, and learning.

Elie brought energy and strong people skills into the office from day one. Curious, social, and thoughtful, he quickly connected with the team and enjoyed learning how collaboration and communication shape the workplace. His interests in philosophy, theology, and language reflected the way he approached conversations throughout the week, always engaged and interested in understanding how people work together.

Rosalie approached the placement with structure and attentiveness. She adapted quickly to the detail focused side of the placement, assisting with stocktake, engineering standards, and internal documentation processes. Her interest in sports science and physiotherapy came through in the way she observed systems, organisation, and teamwork across the office. Quietly reliable and thoughtful, she brought a calm and mature presence to the team.

Sienna brought a creative perspective to the experience, with strong interests in fashion and design. She was naturally drawn to the visual and presentation side of the workplace while also gaining exposure to the coordination, professionalism, and structure involved in a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

Across the week, the students gained exposure to office management, administration, engineering documentation, and the day to day collaboration that supports project delivery across the business.

What stood out most was not just the tasks themselves, but the different ways each student responded to the same professional environment. Some were drawn to structure, some to communication, and others to creativity and presentation. It was a reminder that workplace learning at this stage is less about technical mastery and more about exposure, observation, and beginning to understand where individual strengths naturally fit.

The appreciation shown afterward also stayed with us. The students spoke highly of the support they received from the team, the welcoming environment within the office, and the opportunity to experience a professional workplace firsthand.

A big thank you to everyone across Goldfish & Bay who took the time to mentor, guide, and support the students throughout the week.
