From Intern to Innovator: How James Wahbe is Shaping the Future of Electrical Engineering
When you think of an undergraduate engineer, you might picture someone shadowing senior staff, quietly absorbing knowledge, waiting their turn. James Wahbe never got that memo. Instead, he’s taken ownership of his career from day one—co-leading projects, driving innovation, and proving that leadership isn’t about experience, but about mindset.
At just 21 years old, he’s already shaping the future of electrical engineering and digital modeling. Whether it’s a deep dive into BIM and Revit coordination, a forward-thinking approach to AI in engineering, or transforming complex electrical designs from concept to reality, James isn’t just keeping up with industry trends—he’s actively influencing them.
Raised in Sydney, he grew up watching his father—an electrician—work tirelessly to provide for their family. Seeing firsthand what hard work looked like, he also recognized an opportunity to push beyond. If his dad installed the systems, he wanted to design them.
That competitive spirit and curiosity led him to Goldfish & Bay, where an internship quickly turned into something much more. Under the mentorship of Shayan Aski, he took every opportunity to expand his skills—diving into real-world projects in Rhodes, Crows Nest, Liverpool Street, and Granville.
But his role isn’t just about crunching numbers and drafting blueprints—it’s about making things happen. He’s organized Lunch & Learn sessions, connected with industry leaders, and taken initiative to strengthen Goldfish & Bay’s industry ties. While others wait to be given responsibilities, he actively seeks out challenges and opportunities to grow.
What sets him apart isn’t just technical ability—it’s vision. AI in engineering fascinates him, particularly how automation can streamline processes, reduce human error, and redefine how electrical systems are designed and implemented. He’s not just adapting to the future—he’s preparing for it.
At Goldfish & Bay, he’s found the perfect environment to thrive—a team that values innovation, mentorship, and hands-on experience. The company’s collaborative culture and the freedom to explore new ideas have allowed him to develop a diverse skill set while learning from some of the best in the field.
But this is just the beginning. His ultimate goal? To one day build his own engineering firm. Until then, he’s making his mark—absorbing, innovating, and proving what the next generation of engineers can achieve.
Join us in celebrating the young engineer already making an impact at Goldfish & Bay—and beyond.
