Last week, our team at Goldfish & Bay took part in a hands-on technical session with Victaulic, unpacking the engineering behind grooved mechanical pipe joining and how it’s changing the way we design, install, and maintain building services.
Led by the local engineering team, the session covered the full anatomy of grooved joint systems, highlighting how roll grooving delivers a clean, reliable fit that avoids the inconsistencies common with traditional welds or flanged connections. We examined Go/No-Go gauge tolerances, installation practices, and what sets flexible and rigid couplings apart when it comes to thermal movement, vibration control, and support loads.
The team also explored challenges on fire and mechanical systems, from bracket failures to misaligned sprinkler heads. Victaulic’s VicFlex flexible hose systems were a standout, showing how coordination issues on ceilings and slab penetrations can be resolved with bend radius control and FM/UL-listed performance.
It wasn’t just product, it was design thinking. Every detail linked back to how these systems reduce install time, allow for modular fit-outs, and meet AS/ISO testing standards without compromising safety or compliance.
Big thanks to the Zac Ghandour, Mike Ahmed and Victaulic team for their clear, technical delivery and for bringing real-world coordination into focus.
