Currently under construction in Schofields, KEN BIRDSEY PARK is set to become a 20-hectare community precinct for Blacktown City Council, supported by the Australian and NSW Governments.

At its centre is the sports pavilion designed by Sam Crawford Architects, a 100-metre-long structure that provides change rooms, umpire and first aid areas, a community clubroom, kiosk, public amenities and shaded outdoor spaces. The pavilion’s design draws inspiration from the Coolgardie Safe, using a permeable rubble wall and rainwater harvesting system to deliver natural cooling and integrate with the surrounding landscape.

Working alongside the wider project team, we delivered the hydraulic design that supports the pavilion’s day-to-day operations and safety systems, aligning with its sustainable water strategy and community focus.

Beyond the pavilion, the broader precinct incorporates four multi-use sports fields, a new playground, wetlands, bioretention systems and creekline restoration, creating a resilient, multi-layered space that balances community infrastructure with environmental sustainability.
